Southern and western Free State still in drought's grip
Many farmers in the Free State has renewed hope for the season after the wide spread good rain at the beginning of February. Heavy down falls occurred over the eastern and northern parts of the province. In the district of Steynsrus drought conditions started to develop, but the rains came just in time, with about 270mm measured over seven days over parts of the area. "Things were looking woeful, but the rains came just in time. We are very thankful," says mr. CJ Saaiman, chairman of the district.
